Wandelen aan de rand van de Noordpool
Met de MS Nordstjernen maakt u een tocht naar Noordwest-Spitsbergen. Deze bootreis wordt twee keer onderbroken voor een meerdaags verblijf aan land. Tijdens de bootreis kunnen we al genieten van de Arctische wildernis. We varen dicht langs imponerende gletsjertongen die uitmonden in de zee en langs de spitse bergen, die zo kenmerkend zijn voor de Svalbard eilandgroep.We maken geregeld een landing en onder leiding van de gidsen raken we bekend met de flora en fauna van Spitsbergen en de menselijke geschiedenis. Bijna overal waar we reizen, komen we sporen tegen. Sommigen zijn zelfs honderden jaren oud en ze hebben allemaal een bijzonder verhaal.
Raudfjord
Deze wandelreis, zo dicht bij de noordpool, is geschikt voor wandelaars met een goede gezondheid en conditie, die voorbereid zijn op lopen door ruig terrein zonder paden en op eventuele snelle weersverandering. Er wordt gewandeld vanuit twee basiskampen. Het eerste kamp van waaruit we gaan wandelen is rond het beeldschone Raudfjord, het noordelijkste fjord van Spitsbergen. De scherpe pieken die dit fjord omsluiten hebben Willem Barentsz het idee gegeven voor de naam van het door hem ontdekte land. Het gebied rond het Raudfjord biedt voor elke smaak een wandeling aan. Je kan een wandeling maken langs de kust of van het uitzicht genieten vanaf de majestueuze bergtoppen. De wandelingen zijn altijd onder begeleiding van een gids.
Blomstrandgletsjer
Het andere kamp is gesitueerd op een strand met fenomenaal uitzicht op de Blomstrandgletsjer, waar regelmatig ijsbergen van afkalven. De dagtochten vinden plaats in de bergen, op gletsjers en langs de kustlijn. Voor de liefhebber is er ook de mogelijkheid om een gletsjertocht te maken (onder begeleiding). Het terrein is wonderbaarlijk en de twee verschillende gebieden vullen elkaar perfect aan. Doe mee aan de meest noordelijke trekking ter wereld.

We walk in small groups, always following the tour leader who knows the area and is carrying safety equipment. The terrain is marvellous, and the two different campsite areas complement each other perfectly. The tour leader meets the group at Longyearbyen airport when it arrives, and stays with this same group for the entire tour.

13.00 Sailing time from Longyearbyen.
16.00 Arrival time Barentsburg. Sightseeing. Individual visits at the
Pomor museum, NOK 40,- pr. person.
17.00 Folklore show at the Cultural house (tickets to be purchased
onboard the ship NOK 100,- pr. person).
18.00 Time to look around, and for souvenir-shopping (cash only, in
NOK, Euro and USD). Return to the ship by walking the 263
steps down to the harbour, or by bus.
18.30 Sailing time from Barentsburg.
At night time we sail out of the Icefjord, then northbound along
the coast of the Prins Karls Forland passing the Kongsfjord and
"The seven Icebergs" before reaching Spitsbergen's northwest
corner.
Tuesday (day 3)
Depending on the weather- and ice-conditions we sail to the Woodfjord area. In the Liefdefjord we can see the astonishing front of the Monaco glacier. Zodiac landing in the afternoon. When we have good ice-conditions we cross the 80° parallel and sail up to the Moffen Island.
In the late afternoon we reach the Raudfjord camp in Alicehamna.
Wednesday - Friday (day 4 - 6)
Camping and hiking in the Raudfjord region, our northermost trekking camp in the world in a beautiful scenic landscape with many possibilites for shorter and longer trekking tours.
We join the ship when she returns to the camp late Friday evening.
Saturday (day 7)
We cruise in the nordwest areas of Spitsbergen.
Sunday (day 8)
10.00 Arrival time Ny-Ålesund. Guided walk in town, with information
about the history of coalmining and exploration. Time for
individual walk around, museum visit and souvenir shopping
(credit cards accepted).
12.00 Sailing time from Ny-Ålesund. We cross the Kongsfjord and
embark for the Blomstrand Camp.
Monday - Wednesday (day 9 - 11)
Hiking in the mountains and in the enormous glacier landscape around Blomstrand. 3 days with camping and trekking. Wednesday evening we join the ship again. At night we sail southbound along the coast of Prins Karls Forland and return to the Icefjord.
Thursday (day 12)
10.00 Approximately arrival time in Longyearbyen. Disembarkation.
10.30 Transfer from the harbour to Spitsbergen Guesthouse. Check-in.
18.30 Time on your own, for a walk in Longyearbyen, shopping etc.
Farewell dinner in the restaurant at Spitsbergen Hotel
(10 minutes walk from the guesthouse).
Friday (day 13)
03.30 Night transfer to the airport for departures SK4497 and SK4493.
04.40 SK4497 to Oslo, direct flight, arrival Oslo at 07.30.

dep. 08.40), arrival Oslo 10.30.

level). The hiking trip requires good physical condition. The
route up to the mountain is somewhat steep and is relatively
stony.
13.00 Lunch in Funktionærmessen Restaurant at Spitsbergen Hotel.
15.00 Guided walk in Longyearbyen with guide, visit at Svalbard
Museum. The walk ends by the pier.
17.30 Embarkation MS Nordstjernen.
18.00 Sailing time from Longyearbyen.
21.00 Arrival time Barentsburg. Sightseeing by bus. Individual visits

Saturday - Tuesday (day 4 - 7)
Camping and hiking in the Raudfjord region, our northernmost trekking camp in the world in a beautiful scenic landscape with many possibilities for trekking tours.
Tuesday (day 7)
21.00 MS Nordstjernen returns in the evening, and we join for
transport to our next camp in Blomstrand.
We sail south passing the Smeerenburgfjord and "The seven
Icebergs".
Wednesday (day 8)
20.30 Arrival time Ny-Ålesund. Guided walk in town, with information
about the history of coalmining and exploration. Time for
individual walk around, museum visit and souvenir shopping
(credit cards accepted).
22.30 Sailing time from Ny-Ålesund. We cross the Kongsfjord and
embark for the Blomstrand Camp.
Thursday - Saturday (day 9 - 11)
Hiking in the mountains and in the enormous glacier landscape around Blomstrand. 3 days with camping, trekking and glacier walks.
Sunday (day 12)
12.30 We rejoin the ship MS Nordstjernen for return to Longyearbyen
from the Blomstrand camp.
In the afternoon we sail south along the coast of Prins Karls
Forland and return to the Icefjord.
Monday (day 13)
02.00 Approximately arrival time in Longyearbyen. Disembarkation.
03.30 Transfer from the pier to the airport.

harbour to Spitsbergen Hotel where it is possible to buy breakfast
(NOK 85,- pr. person) and leave the luggage.

customs clearance in Tromsø, arrival Oslo 19:05. Those leaving
with afternoon flight use the airport bus costing NOK 40 pr person.
