Op de rit van Kaapstad naar Namibië wordt het landschap langzaam leger en droger. We kamperen aan de oever van de Gariep rivier en reizen dan door naar de één na grootste canyon ter wereld, de Fish River Canyon. Een ander fenomeen is de indrukwekkende Sossusvlei, 130 miljoen jaar oud met de hoogste zandduinen ter wereld. In Botswana maakt u kennis met de Kalahari woestijn en hun oorspronkelijke bewoners, de San. Vanuit ons safaricamp in de Okavango Delta gaat u op zoek naar wild en vaart in een mokoro door de uitgestrekte delta. Ontelbare kleine eilandjes, nijlpaarden en een ongelofelijke variëteit aan vogels trekken aan u voorbij als u de kanalen en waterwegen van de delta verkent. De Victoria watervallen zijn een waardige afsluiting van deze gevarieerde reis.

Cape Towndag 1
Departing, after a tour briefing, from Cape Town at 08:00am we visit the African Penguin colony en route to Cape Point Nature Reserve and then relax on Hout Bay beach. Beautiful desert landscapes. We move north along the arid coast to the Cape Cross seal colony before heading inland to set up camp under the Spitzkoppe, huge granite domes rising out of the desert. Our next stop is the Brandberg where we camp next to the dry Ugab River, home to the rare desert elephants. Etosha National Park, “the great white place of dry water”, in the game rich northwest corner of Namibia offers a variety of wildlife. We take game drives around the huge dry pan to find the elephants, herds of antelope and lions around the waterholes before we camp at Okaukuejo with its flood-lit waterhole. The Fish River Canyon, situated along the lower reaches of the Fish River, is one of the most impressive natural beauties in the southern part of Namibia. With its depth of up to 550 metres, the Fish River Canyon is the second largest canyon in the world. Magnificent Victoria Falls is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. David Livingstone ‘discovered’ the falls in 1885 and named them after his Queen. The scene he encountered was a mile-wide (1.6 km) sheer basalt fault line over which the mighty Zambezi tumbled to a depth of 100m, creating a cloud of spray. The falls are also the centre of a wide range of activities, including white water rafting on the mighty Zambezi, elephant back rides, scenic flights or a 111m bungi jump (own expense). Tour ends.
