Gamedrives in Etosha N.P.
Etosha, al sinds 1907 een nationaal park, is het leefgebied van groot aantal diersoorten, waaronder wel 340 verschillende vogels. Hier maken we verschillende gamedrives om zo veel mogelijk van dit spectaculaire park én haar bewoners met eigen ogen te zien.
Ova-Himba’s van het Kaokoveld
Het afgelegen westen was lange tijd ontoegankelijk voor reizigers. Wij rijden hier doorheen op weg naar het noordelijke gelegen Opuwo, waar we kennis maken met de laatste traditioneel levende stam van Namibië, de Himba.
Woestijnolifanten, zandduinen en Apfelstrudel
Over de steile Joubertpas rijden we naar Palmwag, het leefgebied van de woestijnolifanten. Deze dieren hebben zich aan hun droge, rotsachtige liefgebied aangepast: hun gewicht is relatief laag en hun poten zijn groter. Onderweg naar de Sossusvlei, met de hoogste zandduinen ter wereld, passeren we Solitaire, een gehucht met slechts enkele huizen, een benzinepomp én waar u de wereldberoemde apfelstrudel kunt bestellen, een echo van de Duitse koloniale periode. De reis eindigt in Windhoek.

Windhoekdag 1
After your arrival at Windhoek Airport you’ll be picked up and transferred to your accommodation. The rest of the day is spent at leisure. You will meet the guide and the rest of the group later that evening. (BLD)Windhoek to Outjodag 2
After an orientation city tour, we leave Windhoek and drive north to our first destination, Outjo in the Kunene Region. Set between low hills on the brink of the Ugab valley, Outjo is the gateway to the Etosha National Park and roughly translated means “little hills”. In the afternoon there is time to take a self-guided walk on the lodges hiking trail. (BLD)Distance: 340 km

Drive to Etosha National Park, Namibiadag 3-4
After breakfast we make our way to Namibia’s well-known highlight of the north – Etosha National Park. We spend two nights in the park, where our days are spent on game drives in the hopes of spotting some of the big five as well as cheetah, giraffe, zebra and the numerous different types of antelope the park has to offer. Our nights are spent at the flood lit waterholes encountering the parks various nocturnal animals as they come to drink. Etosha Game park was declared a National Park in 1907, it is home to approx. 114 mammal species, 340 bird species, 110 reptile species, 16 amphibian species and, surprisingly, one species of fish. Etosha to Kamanjabdag 5
We exit Etosha National Park and make our way to Kamanjab. In the afternoon you have the opportunity to visit a local Himba village to find out more about their traditions & lifestyle. Experience the milking ceremony and the smoke bath. Learn about their beliefs around the holy fire, ancestors, and herbal medicine. (BLD)Distance: 250 km

Brandberg, Namibiadag 6-7
Today’s destination is Brandberg, Namibia’s highest mountain. On our journey we will stop to see ancient Bushmen paintings at Twyfelfontein as well as the Petrified Forest the trees of which are estimated to be 250 million years old. Twyfelfontein was named a World Heritage site in 2007, the first in the country. The following day we visit the “White Lady” one of the most famous rock paintings in the area. The footpath to the site offers spectacular views over the plains of Damaraland. (BLD)Distance: 340 km

Swakopmund, Namibiadag 8-9
Travelling towards the Atlantic coast we make a stop at Cape Cross, home to one of the largest colonies of Cape Fur Seals in the world. We then continue our drive to the charming coastal town of Swakopmund, where you will have the opportunity to partake in a few of the many optional activities that are offered over the next two days. Alternatively just soak up the atmosphere of this little quaint German town and enjoy its beauty and beaches. (BL, B)Distance: 205 km

Sossusvlei, Namibiadag 10-11
An early morning start takes us from Swakopmund south through Walvis Bay on our way to the Namib Naukluft National Park, which is considered to be the oldest desert in the world. On the way there we will make a stop at the small settlement of Solitaire where you will have a chance to sample their world renowned Apple Crumble – only served without cream! That evening we embark on a wild cat walk at the lodge. The next morning we need to wake up early to visit the world’s highest sand dunes at Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. The dunes, which can reach heights of over 300 m, are absolutely spectacular and provide for a fantastic photo opportunity. With luck, there may even be water in the vlei (lake). We also stop to view the Sesriem Canyon, which was carved millions of years ago by the Tsauchab River. (BLD, BLD)Distance: 395 km

Drive to Windhoek, Namibiadag 12
We leave the desert behind us and travel back to Windhoek, through the beautiful countryside, making short stops en-route. Once we arrive the rest of the afternoon can be spent at leisure, and dinner can be enjoyed in one of the many fabulous restaurants in the city. (BL)Distance: 350 km
