The World of Birds on the Falkland Islands
You will have already experienced the first highlight, the passage through the Magellan Strait - a strait with so many islands and branches between the South American mainland and the island of Tierra del Fuego - when the HANSEATIC reaches the Falkland Islands. The waters, which are so rich in fish, attract a wide range of birds to these rocky islands, for example albatrosses, caracaras and the indigenous Falkland pipits. On New Island you can marvel at the cormorants, rockhopper penguins and black-browed albatrosses, whilst on Carcass Island you can observe Magellan and gentoo penguins. Enjoy our short visit to the small, easygoing capital Stanley - for instance by taking a stroll past the Victorian-style houses.

The Animal Kingdom on South Georgia
Our Zodiacs are in constant use in South Georgia, a group of islands in the South Atlantic, where there is always a chance that we will spot indigenous king penguins, fur seals, elephant seals and albatrosses, for example in Elsehul Bay or on the far shore of the Bay of Isles. At the former Grytviken whaling station, where the grave of the Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, who died here, is located, a small church is ready to welcome you to an atmospheric Christmas service.

The "Secluded" South Sandwich Islands
The eleven uninhabited islands, which are just over 500 km south-east of South Georgia are very rarely visited by people, but therefore all the more so by penguins. Initially we will lie off Candlemas Island, and later we will anchor in Cordelia Bay on Saunders Island. Here we hope to be able to observe elephant seals, Weddell seals and black-and-white cape petrels. Our Zodiacs will land on one of the South Orkney Islands to visit the Orcadas research station.

The Magical World of the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula
Point Wild on the north coast of Elephant Island, south of the 60th parallel, marks our arrival in the Antarctic. See in the New Year against a breathtaking backdrop and take the opportunity to don the red parkas in order to explore some fascinating "virgin territory". By the way Elephant Island, the shape of which reminds you of a elephant's head, achieved worldwide fame through the heroic expedition of Sir Ernest Shackleton. Near Livingston Island we may be lucky enough to encounter gentoo and macaroni penguins, as well as elephant seals. Deception Island with its extensive black lava beach and hot springs might tempt you to go for a swim in the middle of the Antarctic. Then we sail through the Errera Channel; our destination is Neko Harbor and Paradise Bay with its population of gentoo penguins. Here the 20 m high sheer glacier face with shimmering blue crevasses will stick in your memory. Another event to exhilarate the senses are the passages through the impressive Lemaire and Neumayer Channels. In the crisp air you can almost touch the shimmering icebergs and glaciers. On Petermann Island, the most southerly point on our voyage you can marvel at the cormorants, Adelie and gentoo penguins. Following a visit to the historic research station in Port Lockroy we chart a course for the famous Drake Passage - and, travelling with so many memories, set sail again for the South American continent.
